Waseda University’s Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies organizes two summer programs for Waseda University graduate students, the Summer Institute for Ph.D. students and the Summer School for MA students, both focused on regional integration in Asia. Begun in 2007, the Summer School this year took place at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics from July 30 to August 2, at Waseda University from August 5 to 8, and at Seoul National University from August 11 to 14. The participants, including mostly MA students and some undergraduate students, came from Waseda University, Seoul National University, Peking University, and Shanghai University of Finance and Economics. The Summer School at the three locations included lectures, discussions, field trips, and free time. Through this program the students from the three countries broadened their knowledge about each country's current political and economic situation, deepened their understanding of the national perspectives on regional integration in Asia, and established a network of contacts with students from the respective countries. Moreover, the Summer School helped the participating students hone their written and oral English communication skills as well as intercultural communication skills.

Eight students from Waseda University participated in this year's Summer Program. They came from the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Graduate School of Global Information and Telecommunication Studies, and Faculty of Political Science and Economics, representing specializations/majors ranging from International Relations to International Policy Studies, Telecommunication and Socio-economics, Network Business and Policy, and Education, Political Science and Economics. The students from Seoul National University represented specializations/majors in International Area Studies, International Commerce, International Cooperation, Comparative Politics, Economics, Public Policy, and Social Science.
