East Asia and the United Nations: Regional Cooperation for Global Issues

The 9th Japan-Korea Seminar on the United Nations System was held on Dec. 11-12 at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific studies, Waseda University, organized by Japan Association for the United Nations Studies (JAUNS) and Korean Academic Council on the United Nations System (KACUNS), and co-organized by Global-COE Program: GIARI.

Attended by 25 Japanese and Korean scholars and researchers, five sessions were held over two days.

Followed by the opening remarks by Jin-Hyun Paik (KACUNS President) and Akio Watanabe (JAUNS President), the 1st session was held under the theme of "Peace and Security in East Asia." At the 2nd session, "Global Human Rights Regime and Human Rights in East Asia" was discussed, and at the 3rd session, "Human Migration in East Asia," was discussed.

On the second day, the 4th session "Sustainable Development in East Asia" was held, followed by the 5th Session titled "The Possibility of an East Asian Community."

As well as the JAUNS members, a total of 30 graduate students of GSAPS, Waseda University, were attended over the two-day seminar.
