Application for participation in the Summer School has now been expanded to include non-Japanese students in MA programs at Waseda University. Students from ASEAN member countries are particularly welcome to apply. The deadline for application is 15 July.

Summer School on Regional Integration 2008

Call for Participants

Call for Participants:
  • The Summer School is open to all Japanese MA students at Waseda University who are interested in regional issues in Asia.
  • Number of students from Waseda: 10
  • The participating Waseda students are asked to purchase their own tickets for the Tokyo-Shanghai and Tokyo-Seoul round-trips. On condition that they meet the following conditions, they will each receive 50,000 Yen in travel support for the Shanghai portion of the Summer School after the completion of the Summer School.
    • They purchase the round-trip ticket for arrival in Shanghai on July 29 and return to Tokyo on August 4.
    • Submit a five-page research report based on the Summer School course work and field trips, after the completion of the Summer School.
  • The students are also responsible for incidental expenses, as well as for their own health and accident insurance.
Application Procedure:
  • Submit (1) an application form and (2) an English essay. The essay should addre ss "What I Want to Learn about Regional Integration in the Summer School." It should not exceed 3 pages (double-spaced), and references should be limited to the absolute necessary sources.
  • Deadline for application: July 4, 2008-->July 10, 2008-->July 15, 2008
  • The application form can be downloaded from the homepage of the Global Institute for Asian Regional Integration (GIARI) at http://www.waseda-giari.jp/
  • The application materials should be submitted all together by e-mail to: summerschoolwaseda@gmail.com
  • The applicants will be informed of the selection results on or shortly after July 9.
  • Application materials will not be returned.

  • August 11 (Monday)-14 (Thursday), Summer School at Seoul National University (Waseda students may return to Tokyo on August 14 or 15.)
