1. Qualifications
1.Applicants are required to be young researchers with no occupational experience who are currently attending a doctoral course or have completed study at the Waseda University graduate school. (Former assistants at Waseda University are also eligible.)

2.There are no age or nationality restrictions. (To be selected for the position of Specially Appointed Researcher (See #3) of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, you need to be younger than 34 years old as of April 1, 2008.)

3.A good command of Japanese is essential. Fluency in English is preferred.

4.Applicants must be conducting research relating to the regional integration of Asia.

5.Applicants are expected to submit their PhD thesis by the end of FY 2009.

2. Job Responsibilities
1.Successful applicants shall belong to one of the Asian Regional Integration research projects (5 areas, 16 teams) detailed in this website and must engage in research activities under the guidance of the project promoter.

2.Successful applicants shall lead international workshops, symposia, and other activities for the entire Global COE programs.
*Successful applicants may be asked to attend various meetings, conferences or conventions as observers in order to better understand the "Global Institute for Asian Regional Integration".

3. Number of Applicants to Be Employed:Approximately 10
The most qualified applicant shall be recommended for the Specially Appointed Researcher post of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (the "Global COE Program"). If the person is currently in the third year of that person's doctoral course, that person's status will be DC1, and if the person is in the fourth year or above that person's status will be DC2. The chosen candidate will receive a monthly stipend of 200,000 Yen for two years (three years for DC1) beginning in FY 2008 as well as a grant-in-aid for scientific research of up to 1,500,000 Yen. 4. Employment Conditions
7 hours per day, 2 days per week. 2,000 Yen shall be paid per hour, resulting in an approximate monthly salary of 100,000 Yen.

5. Office Location
Fellows will work at the "Global Institute for Asian Regional Integration" Global COE Program at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University, 1-21-1, Nishi-Waseda, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.

6. Expected Starting Date of Employment:October 1, 2007.

7. Assigned Period: Six months (October 1, 2007 through March 31, 2008)
Fellows who achieve sufficient results during the current fiscal year may have their contracts renewed for the next FY and thereafter.
